USS Thresher SSN 593 60th Anniversary Memorial Coin

Our USS Thresher SSN 593 coin commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the loss of the nuclear-powered submarine on 10APR63. The front of the coin shows a colorized version of the USS Thresher logo, with wreaths as a symbol of loss, and rope around the outside edge. 60th anniversary is seen, along with the Threshers slogan VIS TACITA (Latin for Silent Force). Lastly, the Mintonator symbol is at the bottom of the coin.

The coin back is the number 129, which is how many men were lost with the boat on that terrible day that we continue to remember. Rings around 129 indicate the sonar pings that the submarine rescue vessel USS Skylark ASR 20 sent out in hopes of finding Thresher. Stars around the outside are a historical reference representing the North Star, with the idea that this symbol would help a sailor navigate or stay on course, including finding their way back to port. 

Our coin by SubMerch is made of brass, with a gold tone finish. This coin is proudly made in New Jersey, USA and is 1.75" in diameter.
