Culinary Specialist / Mess Specialist (CS/MS) Rating Challenge Coin

The CS / MS challenge coin from SubMerch shows gratitude to those crewmembers who work extremely long hours in the taken-for-granted job of cooking all the food for a sea going crew. CS's (since 2004), MS's (1975 - 2004) and Stewards (SD - pre-1975) on board submarines and surface ships work in the galleys and associated mess decks, providing nutrition and a much-needed boost to the crew when they get their favorite meal. 

Our coin is pie shaped in gold with the profile of a pie tin, and the front is emblazoned with 'CS' and 'MS'. Attached to front is a silver oven door, with a bevel to open it from the 2 attached hinges and a magnet. The door also contains the CS / MS rating device. The inside of the door holds 'Angle Cakes Forever', in reference to how uneven cakes will bake when under going 'angles and dangles' at sea. Across from the reveal, we find one of these 'angle cakes' in a baking pan. The reverse of the coin shows a set of enlisted dolphins, 'Silent Service', Navy symbol with 'USN' and Mintonator (my boat nickname). 

Our coin is made of zinc and quality enamels for a high gloss finish.
