Nuclear qualified personnel on board submarines and aircraft carriers are highly trained in the demanding theory and practice of nuclear power. They spend many hours continuing their education as crewmembers, while constantly practicing with the engine room propulsion systems. This challenge coin represents their many hours of dedication required to be 'Nukes' in the United States Navy.

Our coin is oval to represent a Reactor Compartment (RC) / tunnel door, which the nukes have seen / used many times. The front of the coin has officer and enlisted dolphins, along with the nuclear symbol and 'USN'. The rear of our coin is a tunnel / RC door that opens with hinges and has a spy hole, like the actual doors it represents. This door is held in place with a magnet. 'Silent Service' and 'Mintonator' (my boat nickname) are also seen here, Inside the door, we find enlisted and officer badges and simulated door parts. With the door open, we find the nuke tri-foil, surrounded by an actual glow-in-the-dark background, which mimics the perceived nuke world.

Our coin from SubMerch is made of zinc for a high gloss finish.
